George Hill Orchards Reviews
This farm is gorgeous. The owner, I think, was so unbelievably nice - he took the time to explain everything and the quality of fruit was amazing - the way fruit should taste. This is a fantastic place to be and would recommend it to anyone.
The Best Cider Doughnuts Ever! My daughter and I went today. Picking was fine, a bit sparse at the end of the month, but lots of varieties of apples and a fun map and hike. Plus four adorable little goats. piggies, bunnies, chickies. BUT THE CIDER DOUGHNUTS! I have never liked them. I *loved* these. Tender and flavorful! My daughter is a connoisseur of cider doughnuts, and she pronounced these the best she'd *ever* had! Don't miss them!
We had a blast at George Hill! Bonus the Ginger Golds were ripe for the picking and pick we did. This orchard is so much of a hidden gem we initially drove by the entrance. The drive over is super relaxing and wonderfully scenic. We chose to go on a Thursday when it wouldn't be too crowded and it was a perfect afternoon of comfy walks, long talks and nibbling on apples. Although the Golden delicious weren't ready yet the Ginger Gold were a perfect substitute. Super crisp. Mildly sweet. Perfect texture. The orchard also offers some great scenes for pics, a huge maze, a few Animals, a great variety of apples (literally something for every apple lover), chilled and warm cider and the coveted cider donuts which are sold at a VERY nominal price. Overall a great value and perfect for all ages.
I bought a Groupon. So we went apple picking. We had a choice of apples - 40 lbs of wind blown apples or 10 lbs of tree apples. We opted for the windblowns. Since I'm going to make apple sauce. We also got a gallon of cider and a dozen apple cider donuts. The donuts were perfect. Just plain donuts. They were not rolled in sugar. The best part was the orchard itself. They gave you a map to find the different varieties. And Allowed you to drive around the orchard to get to the varieties you wanted. Note - do not attempt driving around the orchard unless you have 4WD It was a rainy day, but we were blessed with an hour window with no rain. So had a perfect day!
Went with my family yesterday to pick pumpkins. This is one of the few places in our area that actually lets you go out into their fields and pick a pumpking. It's not like those places that say you can pick a pumpking, but have them already picked and lined up or in a pile. The scenery was gorgeous as well--trees had great color. We enjoyed a fresh cider donut and sat for a while. The person in the little store (possibly the owner?) told us they were doing a special on the pumpkins so we got two free. Incredible deal!
